1922 PARIS draws its name from "L'Âme de la France", a landmark sculpture by French artist Carlo Sarrabezolles, which was awarded the National Prize of France in 1922.

Carlo Sarrabezolles

Carlo Sarrabezolles was a French sculptor known for his pioneering technique of carving directly into fresh concrete, a method that left a lasting impact on monumental art.

His work, deeply rooted in the Art Deco movement, can be seen on emblematic buildings such as the Palais de Chaillot in Paris.

Though not widely known to the general public, his sculptures are preserved in more than 20 museums, including the Musée de la Piscine in Roubaix, reflecting his quiet yet significant influence on 20th-century architectural ornamentation.
